Pippa Middleton Shows Off Engagement Ring

The Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton’s younger sister Pippa Middleton was seen wearing a large diamond ring after becoming engaged to her boyfriend, James Matthews. The 32-year-old was beaming with happiness as she emerged from the London house she shares with James, showing off her stunning engagement ring. Brilliant and eye-catching, this ring is strikingly different from the sapphire ring Prince William gave her sister Kate back in 2010. Pippa and James are reportedly planning to get married next year.

Practically huge, the ring is set in white gold or platinum with a center stone approximately three carats in size. An octagonal halo of round diamonds surrounds the Asscher-cut diamond at the centre. Featuring a classic Art Deco style with a contemporary twist, this ring is reported to be priced between £150,000 and £180,000. The gap between the Asscher-cut diamond and the halo infuses a sense of lightness to the design.

Fascinatingly beautiful, Asscher-cut gemstones are perfect for a vintage-inspired setting as well as an elegant contemporary setting. This cut was developed in the year 1902 by the Asscher Brothers of Holland. Similar to the emerald cut, the Asscher comes with cropped edges. It highlights the supreme clarity and color of the diamond or gemstone and maximizes brilliance. While not the traditional choice, Asscher-cut diamonds make gorgeous engagement rings.

For those looking for a diamond ring that stands out with its sparkle, but in a very classic and elegant way, an Asscher engagement ring will be the perfect choice. Apart from diamonds, this cut will work with gemstones possessing higher hardness ratings such as aquamarines, rubies and sapphires. Extremely precise and complicated, the cut requires a high level of expertise.
