Peridot Birthstone Jewelry

“These gems have life in them: their colors speak, say what words fail of”, well said by George Eliot. Famous Victorian era ‘novelist, journalist, translator and writer’ has ideally described this luscious colored gemstone, which is also the August birthstone.

Quality peridots come from Norway, Burma, Arizona, Hawaii, and Islands of Red Sea. The olive green gemstone is known as a sixteenth wedding anniversary gemstone, and is associated with zodiac sign, Libra. Pronounced as ‘pear-a-doe’, this sparkling gemstone’s name is derived from an Arabic word, ‘faridat’. Peridot has a hardness of 6.5-7 on Mohs scale, which is comparable to emeralds and tanzanites. In fact, Peridot is a common and cost-effective substitute for Emeralds. They are considered an ancient gemstone, and found in Egyptian jewelry since early 2nd millennium B.C. Legend states that peridot was the favorite gemstone of Cleopatra, and ‘some’ of her emerald jewelry was actually peridot, rather than emerald.

Healing Properties:

It dispels negative emotions and soothes nerves. Interestingly, the olive green gemstone is believed to attract love and calm down anger.

      Hello Bob,

If you are looking for birthstone purposes, a darker peridot will appear more dull. We will not be as impressed with the sparkle factor, as there will be minimum light reflection and refraction because of the darker hue. Peridot are known for their Olive Green color. If you are looking for a dark green color, we would recommend emerald, green sapphire, green tourmaline, and/or green garnet. Are we considering for birthstone purposes, or did you have any special occasions coming up? Please let us know. We are happy to help.

    Hi Ankit,
Thanks for revert. I am not looking for birthstone. My gf loves green color, but darker green. I want to propose her with green gemstone ring.
I don’t wish to spend much on expensive emeralds.
Can I have an affordable emerald ring or a dark green peridot ring?

      Hi Bob,

That’s great news! Congratulations on the upcoming proposal. One of the main benefits of working with Angara is that we are a direct source, no middleman involved. We do have several options for a darker green gemstone (I.e. Affordable emerald, green garnet, and etc.), while making sure it’s affordable. Please send me an email at ankit.daga@angara.com with our budget range, and proposal anticipated date, and I will be happy to provide you with some cost-effective options. One of the main benefits of colored gemstones, including green ones, is that each quality and cost does have a wider color spectrum, so we can find you a cost-effective green gemstone, and make sure the engagement ring is beautiful. Look forward to hearing from you.
