Voted the greatest stage star in a poll, Dame Judi Dench, the actress who has played James Bond’s boss in the hit film franchise, has been nominated for her role in Return To Cranford.
The actress, who won an Oscar for her role in ‘Shakespeare In Love’, had commented ‘’I’m completely at a loss for words but it’s one hell of a thing to live up to,’ said Dench, after she heard that she had succeeded theatre legends Laurence Olivier and Sir Ian McKellen in the list.
Dench has worked in theatre since the 1950s and has received seven of the prestigious Olivier Awards, named after Laurence Olivier.
When she was first cast as Cleopatra in 1987, she turned to her director, Sir Peter Hall, and said: "I hope you know what you are doing, setting out to direct Cleopatra played by a menopausal dwarf.”
The star is in news again as at the Beverly Hilton on Tuesday; Katie Holmes revealed the 2011 Golden Globe nominations. With other nominees for Best Actress in a mini-series or TV movie like;Hayley Atwell, for ‘Pillars of the Earth’ Claire Danes, for ‘Temple Grandin’ Romola Garai, for ‘Emma’ and Jennifer Love Hewitt, for ‘The Client List’ Judi Dench, in ‘Return to Cranford’ looks most likely to carry it off again.
