Century’s Largest Diamond

After Cullinan diamond, discovered in 1905 in South Africa, another massive diamond has been excavated in Botswana Mine.

Weighing approximately 1,111 carats, this sparkling, pure carbon stone is touted as largest discovered in over a century. Unearthed by Lucara Diamond Corp, its origin is in southern lobe of Lucara Karowe Mine in Botswana. William Lamb, President and Chief Executive of Lucara, stated “The significance of the recovery of a gem quality stone larger than 1,000 carats, the largest for more than a century….cannot be overstated.”

Evaluation and appraisal of this magnificent gemstone is yet to happen, but as per experts, it will certainly be one of the most expensive diamonds ever unearthed. Being more than 1,000 carats, this Botswana diamond is second largest in size, behind Cullinan diamond, which weighed an astronomical 3,106.75 carats.
