‘Better a diamond with a flaw, then a pebble without’. Well expressed by Confucius, a renowned Chinese teacher, editor, politician and philosopher. Along the same lines, just let your minds wander, and dream of a 100-carat flawless diamond. Yes! This enormous flawless diamond does exist!
Let’s reveal a surprise to you. This eye-popping diamond was recently auctioned and sold at Sotheby’s. Gary Schuler, the head of Sotheby’s jewelry department in New York, said, “This diamond is the definition of perfection.” He added, “The color is whiter than white, it is free of any internal imperfections and so transparent that I can only compare it to a pool of water.”
It is interesting to know that this D color diamond is emerald-cut, and its massive size is compared to that of a walnut. Mined by De Beers in southern Africa, it’s pre-sale estimation value ranged from $19 to $25 Million. An anonymous bidder bought this perfect diamond for $22.1 million over the phone.
According to Gary, the most distinguished characteristics of this phenomenal diamond are flawless composition, large size and classic shape. Not surprisingly, this was the top seller out of more than 350 jewels, which were expected to sell for more than $50 million.
In rough stage, the original diamond weighed more than 200 carats, and it took De Beers more than a year to carefully refine, cut, polish and provide its present state.
