Peoples awards 2011 and Taylor Swift

What makes this award show so special is that the people have the power. The People’s Choice Award is voted on entirely by the public. The 2011 People’s Choice Awards were held Jan 5, at the Nokia Theater in LA. Hosted by Queen Latifah, the star studded show brought in stars like Taylor Swift, Zac Efron and Natalie Portman and others.

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, House M.D. and Eminem cleaned house with four awards each. Fans picked Twilight as their favorite overall movie and favorite drama. Kristen Stewart also won favorite movie actress.

Johnny Depp won for best movie actor and made sure to say hi to Taylor Swift on behalf of his daughter. "My daughter said if I didn’t say hi to you I’d be in trouble, so hi from my daughter," he said while onstage. The award for favorite country artist went to Taylor Swift. According to 2010 Music Industry Report, besides Lady Gaga and Lady Antebellum, Taylor Swift was most played over the airwaves this year. This report was released by Nielsen SoundScan and Billboard on Wednesday.

At the awards, the music category was absolutely dominated by Eminem. He was fans’ favorite hip-hop artist and male musician, and his song with Rihanna, "Love the Way You Lie," won favorite song and music video.

LeAnn Rimes in News Again Post Engagement

As the Last Year rang out with the news of LeAnn Rimes getting engaged to Eddie Cibrian; the New Year tolled with gossip columns speculating over a possible breast enlargement that Rimes seems to have undergone.

Rimes was clicked earlier proudly showing off her engagement ring, a platinum stunner featuring a 5-carat oval diamond set in rose gold fleur-de-lis, estimated at about $ 85,000. Rimes is reported to have tweeted happily after the engagement "The ring is beautiful, man is better :) "

It seems that the couple designed the ring with Cibrian’s childhood friend, Brent Polacheck of Polacheck Jewelers. "The couple wanted an antique feel, but a new ring."

Supernova discovered by 10-year old in Canada

This morning the BBC reported the discovery of a supernova by a 10 year old:

“Kathryn Gray was studying images taken at an amateur observatory which had been sent to her father. She spotted the magnitude 17 supernova on Sunday.”

Supernovas – which are rare events – are stellar explosions that mark the violent deaths of stars several times bigger than the Sun. The supernova was discovered in the galaxy UGC 3378, about 240 million light years away, in the constellation of Camelopardalis.

Kathryn’s father, Paul Gray, himself an amateur astronomer, helped her make the discovery by taking the steps to rule out asteroids and checking the list of current known supernovas.

The discovery was then verified by independent astronomers and officially registered, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC) said in a statement.”

The news had me thinking about one of the theories about the formation of black diamonds.

Geologist Stephen Haggerty of the University of Massachusetts dumbfounded the audience at a 1996 American Geophysical Union meeting in Baltimore. He posited that Carbonados (black diamonds) were born not on Earth, either the way regular diamonds are or by meteor impact. Rather, they originated in dying stars, when shock waves from exploding red giants crushed carbon into dense aggregations of black diamond and sent them hurtling into deep space. Eons later, the Sun’s gravity lured some of this material into our solar system, where blocks of it slammed into our atmosphere, shattering into the fragments we find strewn over select areas today, perhaps billions of years after they formed.

This is what intrigues me most about black diamonds. The color of mystery, the color of depths unexplored; just like the personality of a highly competitive, successful woman. Sebastian Vettel looks forward for a strong 2011 season

The youngest winner at 21 in Forumula1 history in 2008 is winning –no matter what. The youngest ever, 23-year-old Vettel, eclipsed the return of the most successful F1 driver of all time and at a stroke doubled the number of German world champions in the history of the sport in 2010. He is still a long way off Schumacher’s seven titles and 91 race wins but, with a first championship and 10 career victories under his belt, is up to speed and already mature beyond his years. He will only get better.

As F1 commercial rights boss Bernie Ecclestone gave his prediction on Vettel earlier: “For me, Sebastian Vettel will be the next world champion. Michael Schumacher will have many rivals such as (Lewis) Hamilton, (Fernando) Alonso and above all, Vettel.”

Inspired by the “three Michaels”: Michel Schumacher, Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson; Vettel once said that his passion for cars was nurtured by watching Schumacher compete. “Michael is a legend. I think he has set a benchmark for F1. It’s difficult to get close to the record that he has set.”

For the second year in a row, the constructors’ championship went to a ‘customer team’, a privately-run outfit using engines provided by a manufacturer with its own team.

Renault-powered Red Bull, with technical head Adrian Newey designing a championship-winning car for a third team after previous success with Williams and McLaren, were a cut above their rivals. In 2011, there will be a new sole tyre provider in Italy’s Pirelli after Japanese company Bridgestone called it a day, and a longer calendar than ever with the addition of India as a 20th race after South Korea’s debut last October.

So, who is the girl cheering for him at home? Hanna Prater, unlike other F1 wives and girlfriends is hardly on the track, and their love story started a long time ago in high school. 23 year old Hanna, a design and textile undergraduate, lives with her beloved boyfriend at his home in Switzerland where other drivers also reside, but they have built a strong relationship over the years, their trust, confidence and love for each other goes way back.
